Gone

The murder happened at dawn and the blood shimmered black in the pale light.
He cracked her bones and drove into the wood
Where he dumped her into the lake and he sang by the first break of daylight,

"She is gone, she is gone from the mountains and the valleys!
She is gone, she is gone from the green earth and the sea!
She is done, she is done, yeah! She´s got cold lead in her belly!
She is gone, she is gone, and she´ll never come back to me!"

The constable shook his head, "Well, how can one human do this?
Look, her beautiful body now is a puzzle game!
Let´s go and check out her husband. I´m sure, he´s guilty if he´s crying like this,"

"Woe! She is gone, she is gone from the mountains and the valleys!
She is gone, she is gone from the green earth and the sea!
She is done, she is done, yeah! She´s got cold lead in her belly!
She is gone, she is gone, and she´ll never come back to me!"

They never proved nothing to him. The evidence went into pieces.
The constable shook his head as the case was dismissed.
Most of all the judge being impressed as the accused went on crying like this,

"Woe! She´s gone!"...

One year after they met again in a little pub by the quay lights.
He greeted the constable, "How are you and how is your wife?"
The constable then he smiled and as they cheered he said solemnly to him,

"She is gone, she is gone from the mountains and the valleys!
She is gone, she is gone from the green earth and the sea!
She is done, she is done, yeah! She´s got cold lead in her belly!
She is gone, she is gone, and she´ll never come back to me!"

They are gone, they are gone from the mountains and the valleys!
They are gone, they are gone from the green earth and the sea!
They are done, they are done, yeah! They´ve got cold lead in their bellies!
They are gone, they are gone, and they never come back -
no, they never come back -
sometimes they come back...
